OUTER
BEACH RULES AND REGULATIONS

- Suffolk County Residents must have a valid Suffolk County
Parks Green Key card and carry it with them while utilizing
Suffolk County Parks or Beaches, or tourist rates will
apply.
- Vehicles must have a valid recreational vehicle use permit
affixed to the driver’s side front bumper, or entry
will be denied.
- All vehicles must carry the following equipment: jack,
jackboard, shovel, rope, chain or snap line, fire
extinguisher, spare tire, tire gauge, flashlight, first
aid kit, and a portable air compressor or air tank.
- All outer beach campers must be self-contained. Defined
as: Camper containing a built-in flushable toilet with a
built in holding tank with a minimum capacity of 5 gallons.
Camper must also contain a built-in sink with a minimum of a
5 gallon potable water tank and a minimum 5 gallon soiled
water holding tank.
- Camping is limited to a maximum of 6 consecutive nights.
Regardless of length of stay, campers must vacate park for a
minimum of two nights before returning to camp at the same
park. SMITH POINT & CUPSOGUE CAMPERS: Total
maximum stay will include outer beach and inland camping. A
camper staying four (4) nights or more may not return for a
period of (7) nights from the time of check out. A camper
staying one to three (1 to 3) nights, may not return for two
(2) nights.
- No alcoholic beverages.
- No ground fires. All fires must be contained in an
approved metal container. Campfire size should not be
larger than the container (maximum size – 1/2 of 55 gal.
drum). CCA or treated lumber, construction debris and
pallets are prohibited for use as firewood. Firewood should
be clean and free of nails, screws or any sharp objects. On
sites where fire rings are provided, no other fire
containers will be permitted. Ashes must be
disposed of as directed by park personnel. Do not bury
ashes.

|
- Only marked cuts, roads, entrances and exits are to be used.
No driving on dunes, swails or vegetation.
- Driving in bird nesting areas is prohibited. Check with park
personnel for updates.
- Speed limit – 10 MPH Strictly enforced.
- Each trailer must have own tow vehicle and upon
check-in must provide an emergency phone number where owner
can be reached in case of an emergency.
- All vehicle passengers must wear seatbelts.
- All garbage to be placed in receptacles at Outer Beach
entrance. No dumping, burning, or burying of trash is
permitted.
- All vehicles (including campers) must park perpendicular to
dune line at least 10’ from toe of the dune facing the
water.
- Ruts and holes caused by stuck vehicle must be filled in and
debris removed.
- Permits will be revoked for violations.
- All park camping rules for inland parks also apply.
- Campers may register between 8:00 am – 9:00 pm only.
PETS:
Only domestic animals are permitted. Pets must be confined to
immediate campsite area by a leash. DO NOT TIE YOUR PET TO YOUR
CAMPER OR VEHICLE and leave site. Pets must be on a leash no more
than 5’ in length and under owner’s control at all times. Pets
are not allowed in the protected bathing areas or picnic
areas. Owner is responsible for immediate removal and
proper disposal of pet’s waste. No more than two pets are
permitted at each campsite and owner must show proof of
inoculations at check-in. If a pet becomes a nuisance,
owners may be asked to leave the park. Please keep pets well away
from all bird nesting areas. Walk near the water’s edge and do
not loiter in these areas.
OUTER BEACH RECREATIONAL VEHICLE PASS:
To obtain an outer beach recreational vehicle pass, applicant is
required to provide green key card, proof of Volunteer /
Handicapped Status, and vehicle registration. The vehicle for
which the permit is being purchased must be present at time of
purchase. If the vehicle is registered to a business or
corporation, applicant must produce documentation on company
letterhead, signed by principal of the organization stating that
the vehicle is assigned to the applicant for personal use. In the
case of a new or leased vehicle where only a temporary
registration is available, a Bill of Sale or Lease Agreement must
be provided when purchasing the ORV permit.
VOLUNTEER/HANDICAPED/SENIOR DISCOUNTS:
In order to receive discount for ORV Permit, vehicle must be
registered to the person whose name appears on the discount green
key card. Volunteers must show proof of “ACTIVE” membership.
If membership card does not have an expiration date, then the card
must also be accompanied by a letter from the Fire Chief on
letterhead, stating that the Volunteer is an active member of the
Department. In lieu of a letter, Volunteer can submit a form,
provided by the Parks Department, signed by their Fire Chief.
ALL DISCOUNTS ARE NON-TRANSFERABLE.
SEASONAL DISCOUNT:
The Fall ORV Permits will be available for sale the day after
Labor Day. No pre-sales permitted.
TWO CAR LIMIT:
There is a two car per site limit on the outer beach. At check-in,
two parking permits will be provided. Any additional vehicles or
trailers must park in the designated parking lots. SMITH POINT:
Day trippers are not permitted to park in designated Outer Beach
Camping Area.
CHECK IN/OUT TIMES: Campers may check in beginning
at 8:00 am or immediately after registration if site is available
(except Smith Point, reservation check-ins will be processed after
4:00 pm – NO SOONER) Check in for No-Show sites at Smith Point
will begin at 8:00 am. Sites must be vacated no later than 4:00 pm
except Smith Point (in season 12:00 pm, off-season 4:00 pm on the
last day of stay.) Campers must check out with park attendant. If
camper does not check out by designated time, they will incur a
$25 “late check-out fee”, their green key card will be
suspended and all current reservations will be cancelled.
Full payment is required at check-in.
GENERATORS:
Generators will be permitted during the following hours: 9:00 am
– 1:00 pm and then from 5:00 pm – 8:00 pm. Generators must be
placed at the front or entry door side of your camper/trailer. Keep
all flammable liquids a safe distance away. Do not refuel a hot
generator. Campers with excessively loud generators will be asked
to shut them off. Be considerate of your fellow park users.
SHINNECOCK EAST:
Shinnecock East has been removed from the reservation system.
